Communication, Connection, Heartbreak and Forgiveness—Sangha Week

Soto Zen

Soto Zenresidentialsilentzazenyoga

Six-day residential retreat at Tassajara exploring sangha friendship, heartbreak, and forgiveness through zazen, teachings, work practice, and somatic practices including Qi Gong and Iyengar Yoga. Led by San Francisco Zen Center.

About this retreat

This six-day retreat uses the traditional Zen format—zazen, teachings, and work practice—as a container for examining how sangha (community) holds us, particularly through difficulty. The explicit focus on heartbreak and forgiveness distinguishes it from a standard sesshin; rather than emphasizing individual deepening, the retreat centers relational practice and collective healing.

The inclusion of somatic work—Qi Gong and Iyengar Yoga alongside zazen—suggests a deliberate integration of body-based practices with sitting meditation. This is not a typical all-zazen format. The retreat treats the body as part of the path to understanding interconnection.
