Five-Day Sesshin

Soto Zen

Soto Zensilentsesshinzazenkinhin

Five-day silent Soto Zen sesshin at San Francisco Zen Center's City Center location. Includes zazen, kinhin, formal meals, and dokusan with senior teachers; the silence breaks for a Dharma talk on the final day.

About this retreat

This is a traditional Soto Zen sesshin — five days of structured practice in silence. You'll sit zazen (meditation), walk between periods (kinhin), eat formal meals in the zendo, and meet one-on-one with a senior teacher. The silence holds throughout except for a Dharma talk on the last day, which is standard for sesshin closures.

San Francisco Zen Center's City Center is in the urban heart of the city. The center has not yet published the daily schedule, lodging details, or what's included in the $275 fee. Contact them directly for information on residential vs. commuter options, meal arrangements, and what to bring.
