City Refuge Retreat
Zen
Three-day silent meditation retreat in the city, November 5–7, 2026. Features zazen, oryoki meals, work practice, and dharma talk in the format of a traditional Zen sesshin. Non-residential; participants commute daily.
About this retreat
A three-day urban sesshin held in silence at Heart of Wisdom Zen Temple. The schedule includes zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation), service, work practice, oryoki (formal meals eaten in the meditation hall), and dharma talk—the core elements of a traditional Zen retreat, condensed into a commuter format.
Because this is non-residential, you return home each evening. The center has not published the daily schedule, what time sessions begin and end, or whether dokusan (private meetings with a teacher) is offered. Contact the center directly for those details and to confirm what experience level is expected.
Schedules can change — confirm details on Great Vow Zen Monastery's website.
